Karimabad vs Attabad Lake — Where to Stay
ComparisonHunza Travel Guide

In short: Karimabad is the living base — forts, bazaar, cafés on foot; Attabad is the resort escape — turquoise water from your balcony and little else to walk to. Most great itineraries use both; here’s how to split the nights.
Karimabad’s Case
Everything within a stroll: Baltit Fort, the bazaar, café culture, sunset roads to Duikar. Best hotel range in the valley from PKR 6,000 guest houses to Serena-class (see hotels). The right base for first-timers and culture-first trips.
Attabad’s Case
The lake resorts (Luxus, Famree, glamping pods) deliver the honeymoon shot: breakfast over turquoise. But you’re 40 minutes from Karimabad’s life and dining choices are the hotel’s. One or two nights is the sweet spot.
Verdict
Standard split for 6–7 days: 3–4 nights Karimabad, 1 night Attabad (couples: 2), 1 night Gulmit for upper Hunza light. Honeymoons flip the weighting toward the lake (Honeymoon package).
