Islamabad to Hunza by Air — Flights, Costs & Backup

Travel PlanningHunza Travel Guide
← All Hunza travel guides
In short: There is no Hunza airport — you fly Islamabad to Gilgit (about 1 hour, among the world’s most scenic flights past Nanga Parbat), then drive 90–120 minutes to Karimabad. Flights are weather-sensitive; every fly plan needs a road backup.

The Gilgit Flight

Small turboprops operate the Islamabad–Gilgit route, usually mornings, with strict weather minima. When it flies, it’s unforgettable; expect fares to be modest and booked at cost by us with your package.

Cancellation Reality

A meaningful share of flights cancel outside high summer. Our Hunza By Air package carries an automatic costed road backup: you lose a day, never the trip. Flying one way and driving the other is the most popular compromise.

Skardu Alternative

Islamabad–Skardu uses larger jets with a more robust schedule — worth considering if your plan includes Skardu anyway; see Hunza or Skardu by Air.

Official Sources & References

Domestic flight schedules and operations are governed by the Pakistan CAA and the operating airlines. Always confirm time-sensitive details (visa rules, pass openings, flight schedules) with the official source before travel:
