What You’re Seeing

Nanga Parbat is the world’s ninth-highest mountain and the western anchor of the Himalaya: a solitary massif rising nearly 7,000 m above the Indus, which is why it dominates the horizon so completely from the highway. The viewpoint faces the Raikot side; the mountain’s full drama (the 4,600 m Rupal Face, Earth’s highest wall) hides on the far side toward Astore.

Visiting the Stop

It’s a signed roadside platform with tea stalls: a 15 to 20 minute stop that every one of our includes on the drive north. Morning northbound is the light sweet spot; afternoons often build haze and cloud around the summit. Clear-day probability is best October to April and early mornings year-round.

The Junction Point
