Hunza Food Guide: What & Where to Eat

Food & CultureHunza Travel Guide
← All Hunza travel guides
In short: Hunza eats differently from lowland Pakistan: apricot-oil cuisine, buckwheat and wheat breads, walnut everything, organic vegetables and famously light, fresh flavours: plus a genuine café scene in Karimabad.

Must-Try Local Dishes

Chapshuro (meat-filled bread), harissa/diram-style breakfasts, dowdo soup, gral and molida in Gojal, apricot-kernel oil drizzled on everything worthy, and the twin cakes: walnut and apricot: that define Karimabad café culture.

Where to Eat

Karimabad: rooftop cafés with Rakaposhi views and proper espresso. Gulmit/Passu: Wakhi home-style stops (Glacier Breeze’s apricot cake is a pilgrimage). Attabad: lakeside trout. Local-home dinners can be arranged on culture-focused tours.

Dietary Notes

Everything is halal by default; vegetarian is easy (the cuisine leans that way), vegan manageable with notice, and allergies are briefed to hotels ahead by us. Tap water is glacial but drink filtered/bottled; hot drinks everywhere are safe.
