Internet & SIM Cards in Hunza

Travel PlanningHunza Travel Guide
← All Hunza travel guides
In short: Connectivity in Hunza is better than travellers expect: 4G covers Karimabad, Aliabad and most of the KKH corridor, hotel Wi-Fi is standard (variable speed), and a local SIM costs little and takes minutes with your passport.

Which SIM

SCOM is the Gilgit-Baltistan specialist with the widest valley coverage; national carriers work well in central Hunza. Foreigners register with passport at franchises in Gilgit or Aliabad: our airport pickup includes SIM help so you land connected.

Coverage Reality

Strong: Karimabad, Aliabad, Attabad, Gulmit. Patchy-to-none: Khunjerab route beyond Sost, Chapursan, Shimshal, trek camps, Fairy Meadows (cabins sell Wi-Fi vouchers of honest mediocrity). Download offline maps before upper-valley days.

Working Remotely

Doable from Karimabad cafés and better hotels; video calls hold most of the time. For anything mission-critical, schedule around mornings and keep the SIM + hotel Wi-Fi redundancy.

Verification and Official Sources

Travel conditions can change after this guide is updated. Before departure, verify visa rules through the Pakistan Online Visa System, highway access through the National Highway Authority, and local notices through the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. Confirm flights directly with the operating airline.
