Hunza Packing List (by Season)

Hunza's mountain weather swings from hot afternoons to cold nights, so smart layering matters. Here's exactly what to pack.

Clothing — layer up

Even in summer, evenings and high passes are cold, so pack layers: breathable base layers, a warm mid-layer (fleece), and a windproof/rain jacket. For spring and autumn add a heavier down jacket; for winter, serious insulation, gloves and a hat. Modest, comfortable clothing is best for the local culture.

The essentials

Footwear

Comfortable walking shoes or light hiking boots; sandals for guesthouses.

Sun protection

Strong sun at altitude — sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat are must-haves.

Cash

ATMs are scarce and cards rarely accepted — carry enough Pakistani Rupees.

Medicines

Personal medication, basic first aid, and something for altitude and stomach upsets.

Don't forget

  • Universal power adapter and power bank
  • Local SIM (buy in Islamabad or Gilgit)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Warm hat, gloves and thermal socks (all seasons for high days)
  • Copies of passport/visa and travel insurance
  • Modest layers and a scarf
