In short: Hunza is relaxed, welcoming and modest: comfortable layers with covered shoulders and knees serve everyone well, women travellers need no head covering except inside mosques, and practical mountain clothing beats fashion at every stop.
For Women
Loose trousers/long skirts with tunic-length tops are ideal; a scarf in the daypack covers mosque visits and dust. Hunza is notably comfortable for women travellers — local women work everywhere, and solo female guests report ease. Activewear under a long top works for hikes.
For Men
Trousers or long shorts (knee-covering preferred in villages), t-shirts fine, a collared layer for nicer dinners. Shalwar kameez bought in Karimabad makes a comfortable, appreciated option.
Practical Layers
Every season needs a warm evening layer; see the full packing guide for month-specific lists. Sturdy shoes beat sandals for forts and viewpoints.
