In short: Rakaposhi View Point at Ghulmet on the Karakoram Highway is the world's most casual encounter with a 7,000 m giant: roadside cafés serve tea and pakoras directly beneath Rakaposhi's 5,800-metre wall — one of the greatest base-to-peak rises on Earth.

The Uninterrupted Wall

From Ghulmet the eye travels from about 2,000 m at the river to 7,788 m at the summit in a single sweep — nearly six vertical kilometres with nothing in the way. Mountaineers rate it among the tallest unbroken mountain faces visible anywhere.

The Famous Tea Stop

Every Hunza itinerary pauses here, usually for breakfast northbound: parathas, omelettes and milk tea at plastic tables while the glacier calves audibly above. Souvenir stalls sell apricot products and gemstones.

Photography & Timing

Morning light favours the face; afternoon can flatten it. Clouds often build by midday in summer — another argument for the classic breakfast stop. A wide lens plus a person at a café table gives the scale shot.

Where It Fits

The View Point sits between Chilas and Karimabad, so days two of most tours include it northbound and the final days southbound. The Nagar-side tours (8 Days Nagar, Hopper trips) add even closer angles. Pair it with the Nanga Parbat View Point further south — the KKH’s other great roadside giant.
