Nagar Valley Guide — Hunza’s Quieter Twin
Hunza’s Mirror Kingdom
For centuries Nagar and Hunza were separate princely states, facing each other across the gorge and occasionally feuding. Nagar’s villages — Sumayar, Askurdas, Minapin, Hopper — keep a quieter, predominantly Shia character and terraces every bit as beautiful as their famous neighbour’s.
What to See
Hopper Glacier — the black-ice amphitheatre and Nagar’s signature stop. Minapin — trailhead for the Rakaposhi Base Camp trek with the greatest base-to-peak rise on Earth. Rush Lake (4,694 m) — Pakistan’s highest alpine lake trek. The Hispar road — gateway to one of the longest glacier systems outside the poles.
Visiting Nagar
Half a day covers Hopper from Karimabad; a full day adds Minapin and the Sumayar side. Every Hunza package of 6+ days includes a Nagar excursion, and trekkers base here for Rakaposhi and Rush Lake. Hotels are simpler than Hunza’s — most visitors sleep in Karimabad and day-trip across.
