In short: Flying north saves two long road days, but the two gateways are not equal: Skardu has direct commercial jets from Islamabad (and seasonal Karachi/Lahore flights), while Hunza is served via Gilgit's smaller weather-sensitive turboprops. The Flight Options

Islamabad–Skardu runs daily jet service in season with the famous Nanga Parbat panorama; Islamabad–Gilgit (for Hunza, 90 minutes’ drive from the airport) uses smaller aircraft with stricter weather minima. Both are spectacular; Skardu’s schedule is simply more robust.

Cancellation Reality
