In short: The Karakoram Highway to Hunza is fully paved and well maintained — a genuine highway, not a jeep track. Side valleys differ: Naltar, Hopper approaches and the Raikot track to Fairy Meadows are rough 4×4/jeep roads by design.

The Main KKH

Islamabad to Karimabad and on to Sost is asphalt throughout, including the 7 km Attabad tunnels. Landslides occasionally close sections for hours (rarely days); clearing machinery is stationed along the route and our drivers reroute or wait smartly.

Side Roads

Naltar: rough jeep track, 2.5 hrs of fun. Hopper: paved then broken tarmac. Raikot–Fairy Meadows: the famous cliff track, dedicated local jeeps only. Shimshal: dramatic gorge road, local 4x4s and drivers only. Winter adds snow above Aliabad — 4×4 season.
